LIZ LOKRE – Emerging From The “Toronto Sound”

“So long– that’s what she said” sang Erykah Badu

So Gone [over you]” Monica used to sing and rap

Buh Bye“, says Liz Lokre not only singing but dancing too,

Tired of playing never-ending losing games,

When a woman’s fed up two words are enough to break free from what drains their energy.

On Friday July 14th, LIZ LOKRE has dropped the brand new visual for her latest single Buh Bye.

Previously, we discovered Liz under the name Liz Loughrey, for her stunning and engaged music video Rise Up, influenced by Caribbean music .

Back in time she was collaborating with Adrian X, Grammy Award winning songwriter, producer and world touring guitarist, who’s worked with The Weeknd has headed up the live bands for Drake, PartyNextDoor and more, as the OVO Festival musical director.

Now, for this new single, Liz and Adrian work again together. Buh Bye is indeed produced by Adrian X and Jordan Reyes of BASECAMP.

This song is quite representative of what we call the Toronto Sound, distinctive of ambient R&B sounds, with a slow tempo beat, and rising soulful vocals. The type of sound to drive long roads at night, as would comment Drake.

That term of Toronto Sound has emerged to the world because of Drake and The Weeknd types of samples.

However, this city is way too thriving to limit its music sound to two artists, despite their international aura.

Therefore, Liz and her team have been working to create the sound of the LZL collective.

As you can hear in Buh Bye, this is quite a clever tune, with several subtle layers.

First the guitar sets up a dark and heavy atmosphere. Despite the slow tempo, the beat of the drums remains catchy with a its rhythm pattern.

This added to the outstanding Liz’ flow and delivery gives it a dancing vibe.

That’s why you can see her dancing along the video for Buh Bye; a visual partly funded by MuchFACT, foundation to assist Canadian talents, the music video is directed by Sean McBride & Caroline Torti.

The original part of the song is the presence of the trumpet. Its solo part is as suggestive as can be.

The horns here do a great job of supporting Liz’ voice and brings lightness in the heavy atmosphere set up in the beginning of the track.

This track well deserves its 130,000 streams on Spotify and is another opportunity to get into the universe of the pop-soul artist LIZ LOKRE.
