London-based R&B / Neo-soul singer, songwriter and artist Nia Chennai shares her new female empowerment anthem ’WHO’S THAT GIRL?’, out everywhere, and produced by Nikhil Beats, previously featured on Sounds So Beautiful.

For the occasion, we had the pleasure to have a little chat with Nia Chennai. The great story behind her music, is that she makes song to instil self-love and confidence.

In the following interview, she replies to questions such as what helped her build your own self-confidence, talks about the debate around Body Positivity.

Interview: How to write songs about self-love, with Nia Chennai

Hot off the release of her summer single ‘So Pretty When You Cry’ – which landed praise from the likes of COLORS, Noctis, Viper Magazine, Tmrw Magazine, Earmilk and many more, Nia returns with a 2000s inspired slice of R&B heaven, with a message of self-love. With her previous music centering love and heart-break, Nia wrote this track as a message to herself and others to love yourself first.

She says, “The track was inspired by my journey of learning to believe in myself wholeheartedly. I wanted to pour my confidence and manifest my goals into this song. I had been writing a lot about heartbreak previously, but this time I wanted to shift the focus and talk more about how I feel now, and what I want my future to look like.

I wanted to instil the confidence and self belief that I have, in other girls like myself who are trying to make things happen for themselves. I’m at a place in my life where I know what I want and I’ve planned a route on how to attain it and because of that, when I close my eyes and think about my future, my thoughts are as vivid as ever. I want people to listen to the song and feel motivated, like they can do anything they put their mind to, because being an ‘IT GIRL’ doesn’t come from being beautiful, it comes from being your best self and recognising it.”
