Gold Complex – This Is Music For Modern Gentlemen

Back in 2016, Gold Complex was already taking the industry by storm with previous work, Gold Complex EP, including successful singles such as Backbone and Tread On Me.

The release of their anticipated debut full length album has been expected since Spring 2017, and finally, here it is. This last Friday February 22nd, 2019.

The Needle, included in this project, was already released 2 years ago, teasing the coming of the New Soul album.

This New Soul album sounds fresh, alive, and elegant. This is music for modern gentlemen, made of relatable stories told in a friendly atmosphere. The kind of atmosphere where fellas rejoice, cheer up and share golden moments, despite a life in black and white. This is what it feels like after listening to tear-dropping song Acrylic Heart, then switching to catchy and carefree track Meant To Dance.

Even when the album tends to sound more pop and commercial, the band keeps it real with its jazz roots. Driver has that little Ed Sheeran kind of vibe while Meant To Dance is the only tune that dares the electro-disco sound. Mixing it with the rawness of the acoustic instruments playling live adds value to the track; this is a rich track, very well put together.

The whole body of work remains a highlight of what to expect of Gold Complex on stage during festivals. The lively arrangements that support the raw and heart-pouring rendition from the lead singer color this album golden.

Not Another Long Song and New Soul really stand out in this compilation of original songs. Voice technique is breathtaking, songwriting is addictive and loyal to the tradition Old Soul genre, storytelling on point, and the music progression never stops to surprise and amaze.
