Bob Cheevers: Celebrating a 50 Years Career
Here’s the story of a man, a poet, a singer-songwriter who’s dedicated his whole life to the only one thing young musicians dream to wake up and life for; Music.
This man’s name is Bob Cheevers, from Memphis, Tennessee, and he did make his fame from Nashville to Texas, in Austin, fertile land where blossoms musical creativity.
“Moving to Texas felt right from the start. So many of my pals, like Walt Wilkins and Kevin Welch, had already moved there and I felt enormous creative freedom simply by being in that community of artists.” – Bob Cheevers.
Proof is, his first album there “Tall Texas Tales” back in 2011, made him earn Singer- Songwriter of the Year award from the Texas Music Academy.
Long recognized by peers as being blessed with the acute vision of a master painter coupled with the precision attention to detail of a great novelist,
Cheevers has written over 3,000 songs in his almost five decade career.
A few of Bob’s career highlights:
*1980’s: Two of Bob’s music videos received 8 Emmy’s including “Best Historical Musical Composition” for his song “Big City Gambler”.
*Johnny Cash asked Bob to open his next tour. The tour begins but unfortunately ends abruptly when Cash’s health turns the tour into his final set of performances.
*2011: Bob is recognized by the Texas Music Awards as “Singer-Songwriter of the Year”
*In recent years, Bob has released two CD’s “Tall Texas Tales” and “Smoke and Mirrors” both climb the Americana charts. Each of Cheevers Ten commercial CD’s have been the
promotional focus of his ten years of touring in Europe.
*2016 finds Bob celebrating 50 years as a singer-songwriter by releasing his new CD “On Earth As It Is In Heaven”. Bob strongly connects with his audience by spinning stories of tightly crafted characters drawn from the Old West and the Deep South; along with his touching explorations of love and affairs of the heart.
He’s celebrating today his 50 year career with a new album titled On Earth As It Is In Austin
And, this newest collection of 15 songs is the coherent follow up of his continual poetry and creativity;
The songwriter keeps writing his own legacy.
Melancholic and bluesy, burning hot country, suggestive guitar strings, honest lyrics
On Earth As It Is In Austin is all about the tales of rebels and outlaws and dreamers and lovers,
Recorded as musical duets with 15 different celebrated musicians performing on one song each.
Among the 14 Austin-based musicians contributing their talents are stalwarts
Will Sexton, Walt Wilkins, Stephen Doster, Warren Hood, Dustin Welch and Van Wilks as well as longtime Nashville collaborator Charlie White.
Also a cult favorite in the UK and Europe where he has toured for more than a decade,
Cheevers continues to find inspiration in the life he’s chosen in Texas as well as the rich Southern heritage that came from his growing up in Memphis.
His rootsy, blues-flavored songs spin tales of life in a conversational language of the heart that rocks the soul.
They are intimate and expansive, poignant and bracing, tender and raucous, un- flinchingly honest and redemptively healing.
As he laughingly is known to say, “I don’t know if these stories are true, but they happened to me.”
To conclude, let’s point out that the celebration is till going on,
