Liz Kelley ft MonoNeon: Music to heal after a trauma
Nashville Artist/Producer Liz Kelley released new music with message about healing after trauma, featuring Grammy Award-winning bass legend MonoNeon.
Having opened for Lalah Hathaway, Nate Smith and Makaya McCraven, and working with MonoNeon, Liz Kelley pulls from her background in jazz, AI sound design and an international upbringing to create alternative textures with a sullen danceability. Her new single “Notice”features Grammy-Award winner MonoNeon, who toured with Prince and others.
A multi-cultural multi-instrumentalist, Liz Kelley grew up between Tokyo and the American South. In college she studied classical guitar, music technology and jazz voice, receiving a DownBeat award and performing at Montreux, Umbria and Vienne Jazz Festivals.
Influences ranging from Hiatus Kaiyote to Bjork can be heard due to this diverse cultural and educational background. Since graduation, she has worked as a sound designer for an AI DJ company, composed for a neuroscience firm, and toured internationally with her band, Oracle Blue.
Her single “Notice”, out April 14th, is about the pain that gaslighting can inflict on one’s mental health. The single was co-produced by Kelley’s longtime collaborator Justin Trout, and features Grammy-Award winner MonoNeon (Prince, Ne-Yo).
“It can be so difficult to make the choice to step into the unknown when we have been living in a familiar haze for years. But I encourage anyone, particularly women in the creative field, to take an honest look at their situations, personally and professionally. If we are products of our environments, we must plant ourselves in the light, where we can grow.”
