Molly Green’s NAKED EP: All You Need Is Guitar And Vocals

Rising Neo-Soul star Molly Green is back and offering up her first acoustic EP NAKED, available since 2nd July.

Recorded in lockdown and produced by Molly this EP really shows off her raw talent and stunning vocals. With just an electric guitar and her voice, NAKED showcases how Molly Green can capture the listener.

NAKED consists of four tracks, first off a fan favorite ‘Just A Girl’.

According to Molly: “Just A Girl is about breaking up and moving on. I wrote it when I was 16, feeling positive about the past and looking forward to a new adventure. Narrating the phases of a break-up, initially struggling to let go of the past, through to realising that some things are just not meant to be and
life has new things to offer now.”

There’s a sweet innocence in the lyrics and melody that is met by the relaxed jazzy feel of the instrumentation that provides an easy listening, uplifting track to get you through a rainy day.

Next up is a cover, initially by hip-hop group Brockhampton: ‘SUGAR’. Not a track you would immediately associate with Molly’s sound, however this neo-soul re-work is a credit to her innate musical ability.

Molly states: “My cover of SUGAR takes it right down, offering a more relaxed neo-soul style track.

With just guitar and vocals, there is an intimate quality to it, with a focus on the soft, warm vocal. Jazz vocal techniques push it in different directions, keeping an otherwise simple cover, interesting.

I hope to have kept it close enough to the original that it maintains all fundamental elements that make it such a great track, whilst still being able to offer something different.”

The third track on the EP is ‘I’m Ready Now’, a more recent work of Molly’s which offers her sassier side.

She explains: “I wrote this track when preparing to support Joy Crooks, a huge opportunity which ended up being my last gig before lockdown.

I wanted to write a song specifically for the gig, and given the high that I was feeling at the time, it made sense to write about that feeling; about how you can go from feeling like nothing’s happening and you can’t do it, to feeling like everything’s happening and you’re ready to take on the world!

I wanted to let everyone there know that I am ready.”

And last but not least we have an acoustic version of Molly Green’s latest single ‘Dusky Haze’. Stripped right down to the bare bones, we are subjected to the beautiful melodies and lyrics at the heart of the track.

According to Molly “Dusky Haze is about that dreamy feeling you have when you’re falling for someone, coinciding with the atmosphere created by the first leaves of autumn falling. Written initially with only guitar
and vocals, the fundamental beauty and meaning of the track is maintained in this version.”

With every release Molly Green goes from strength to strength. Already championed by Dave Monks at BBC Introducing, NAKED is an EP that demands repeat listening, and is a stunning demonstration of style and versatility.

Her voice doesn’t shy away from the exposure in the slightest, delivering every line with conviction, purpose and ease.
