SAFIYYAH – Letting Yourself Go And Then Grow… Quite A Meditative Experience
“Where are we going, why are we slowing down
Where are you going, we should be growing now” – Kendrick Lamar ft Jhené Aiko
Grow is an uplifting tune by 22-year-old singer/songwriter Safiyyah, to help you put your spirit at ease, sip slow, think slower, go then grow.
West London based artist, sharing origins from both Portugal and Morocco, Safiyyah offers a musical experience as rich as her cultural roots. She effortlessly blends contemporary R&B with Jazz, all over a deligthful lo-fi production.
The drums set up a jazzy groove mixed a subtle afrobeat, that feels like a slow jam, slow dance. The soothing sound of the saxophone breathes out a call for relaxation. Safiyyah’s mesmerizing voice invites you to let yourself go, ignore people’s opinion that’d distract you from your very own self.
The overall experience feels all meditative.
Her influences are Kendrick Lamar, Erykah Badu, Prince and just generally powerful female influencer such as Nina Simone, Frida kahlo.
Safiyyah has recently been signed to Polarface Records whose roster includes [ K S R ] and Clive Mercury. Polarface an independent record label run by 4 young individuals, who have a strong ethos in “getting out there doing sh*t for yourself because no one else is going to do it for you”.
Safiyyah’s next live performance will be 20th November where she will be opening for Mercys Cartel.
