Josh Goddard – Making Soul Music Sound Timeless Again

Stumbling and rolling upside down
Wild young hearts playing the game of love
Falling again and crying to the pain of passion
Before rising anew, shining like a Sunday Sun.

November 2nd, 2018, Manchester based singer/songwriter Josh Goddard proudly shares with the world his debut EP ‘Roll With Me’. The he sings feels like he’s feeling every single letter of the word he’s voicing. The Soul man seems like he could cry out of passion after his rendition. That’s how you get tracks like Hear My Cry’.

The EP compiles four tracks, all recorded at Liverpool’s iconic Parr Street Studios (Diana Ross, Bjork, Elbow). This beautiful body of work blends sounds of the mid 1970’s with modernity. Infatuated with the charisma of Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, you can feel Goddard’s burning will to make Soul music timeless again along the arrangements.

Roll With Me offers a pretty good introduction to Josh Goddard’s universe. The production with the fade in is a the same time suprising and clever. Sounds like the return of an anthem for Rhythm & Blues, as old as gold as it can get.

On My Mind has that infectious groove on the drums, nostalgic invitation to dance over a sexy jazz guitar licks, and smooth piano notes; like we’re still in the 90’s.

Hear My Cry has that subtle modernity too in its recording with the sampling of the clapping hands. However it helps reminisce what music used to feel like during the MoTown era.

Finally Stumble is the most elegant way to conclude this EP. This mellow downtempo ballad has a great replay-value.

Josh states “Say something make sense of it afterwards” this is the first line of ‘Stumble’. It’s like when you are stumbling and fumbling to say the right words to a pretty girl”.

Josh continues to add contemporary touches throughout the EP, highlighting the unique, powerful and raw vocal that this young artist is quickly becoming known for.

Having supported legendary RnB singer Martha Reeves as well as playing major festival slots at
Kendal Calling and Dot To Dot Festival, Josh has picked up support from the likes of BBC Introducing and this stunning debut body of work will continue to build his presence across the online tastemaker world.

Following the release Josh is set to embark on a 22 date UK headline tour with performances at London’s Under The Bridge.
