Mithrilblue drops his experimental R&B and hip-hop style in ‘GET WITH YOU’
mithrilblue is the experimental bedroom pop artist William Bucker, who has devised a quite unusual path to get to where he is today. Starting out primarily as a rapper and inspired by greats such as Kid Cudi and Jon Bellion, the Portland based troubadour started rapping in high school and beyond. However, when that unprecedented time of 2020 came around and we were all bound to our homes, Willie found a new and profound sense of musical purpose.
He then started properly writing and producing properly for the first time, and enabled himself the time and freedom to truly create and see where his mind could take him sonically. A renewed love and passion for music had formed, and what started out as writing songs for his wife, has now turned into his own project in mithrilblue. Blending between alternative R&B, pop and experimental hip-hop, Willie has made a sound that is his own and has since released a debut album ‘DOUGHY’ in 2021, and now arrives with another single in 2022 pushes his boundaries once more.
‘GET WITH YOU’ is a chilled and dreamy trip-pop track that holds so many different angles and delicate moments throughout. Willie started singing in 2020, and really brings his unique vocal to the floor aligned with a groovy beat that goes so well against his voice. Delving into the meaning of being infatuated and deeply in love, it’s a romantic song that ebbs and flows with absolute ease, and mithrilblue really explores himself in this one.
A bedroom pop vibe that soaks you in his floaty atmosphere, Willie has created this himself and makes it immediately accessible and easy to relate to and invest in. ‘GET WITH YOU’ has so much to love about it, the soft guitars, vibrant keys, and pared back vocals and of course the melancholy beats that bring an ever greater sense of contrast in the dynamics. A song which is left to interpretation sometimes works best, and in mithrilblue’s case, it couldn’t be a smoother and more harmonious way of working and making music that sticks.
